Within its diverse community, the RTLA has been successful in nourishing the
athletic and artistic talents of its members through its various programs. In
return, RTLA members have competed and excelled in a wide range of sporting and
artistic events.
Sports & Athletics
Affirming the notion that an intellectual disability is no obstacle to engage
in sports. RTLA members have competed successfully and aggressively in the
World Championship Games and the Special Olympics achieving inspiring results.
- Participated in the World Championship Games for the Intellectually
Disabled in Sweden 1989.
- Participated in the Special Olympics of 1993 held in Lebanon where RTLA
members won 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal in running and shot put.
- Participated in the Special Olympics of 1995 held in Connecticut, USA where
the RTLA members were successful in winning 5 gold medals in running and
swimming, and 1 bronze medal in volleyball.
- Participated in the Special Olympics of 1999 held in Georgia, USA where
RTLA members were successful in winning 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal in
ping-pong (table tennis).
- Participated in the World Championship Games of 1999 held in Greece where
RTLA members won 1 gold medal in swimming and 1 bronze medal in shot put.
- Participated in the Special Olympics for Arab states in 2000 and RTLA
members won 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal in table tennis.
